Two of my ‘first’s here — organizing an event here and go-karting
I am in the Sports Team of the Bureau des Eleves (students society) of the school and responsible for karting events. So after dozens of e-mails back and forth with the karting company, we finally went for our first karting event on Saturday.
我两个‘第一次’的经验 — 在这里举办活动和参加go-kart. （我真的不知道华语叫什么）
Initially, I was a little worried if I could handle it, being a foreigner who speaks ‘separuh masak’ (half-cooked) french. Thankfully, the e-mails replied were always in English. After half a year here, I would say that my stereotypical opinion that the French don’t speak English is starting to change. No doubt, there are still many of them who either don’t know or are reluctant to speak in English. However, I’ve met many of them who try harder to speak in English than I do in French. Shame on me for not trying harder, this I admit.
Anyway, back to karting. It was really great fun! I almost forgot the satisfaction I get when I organize an event. I kind of missed being back in uni when we were so busy with different kind of events, it made life more exciting and interesting. There is always a sense of fulfillment when you’re involved in something and being occupied with an activity. It helps take away my shyness. (what? you’re shy? yeah! I am. I think I can imagine some of you rolling your eyes.)
